Kaleopolis — how we keep your words
Kaleopolis is a city where Nio introduces you to people. To do that, Nio needs to know what's going on in your life and who you're looking for. This says plainly what happens to what you share.
Who is behind Kaleopolis
Kaleopolis is made by Ibryam Yaldaram, London. For anything about your data, write to us from "Write to us" on the page or at hello@kaleopolis.com.
What we write down
- What you fill in at the start: first name, language, year of birth, how to address you, city, country, email.
- Your conversations with Nio — every word, yours and Nio's.
- The chats with the people Nio introduces you to — every message, yours and theirs.
- What Kaleopolis notes from them: what's going on in your life, what you want and who you're looking for — in your words.
- The marks you give Nio and the messages you write to us.
- Where you came from — which link, app or site — and your phone's language. This is only counted, without knowing who you are.
- One cookie in your browser so we know you when you come back. Nothing else: no ads, no tracking, no third-party cookies.
What we do with it
- Every night Kaleopolis lays what you're looking for against what other people look for and offer, and finds possible introductions.
- A person from Kaleopolis reads every possible introduction before Nio tells you about it. They also read conversations where Nio stopped and asked for a person to look, and your marks and messages.
- When you say no to an introduction, Nio asks what didn't fit. What you share then stays with Nio — it helps the next search and never reaches the other person.
- Conversations are read to make Nio better. That has been part of Kaleopolis from day one.
- Chats between two people are read in three ways. Every message is checked before the other person sees it — for threats, pressure, asking for money or intimate photos, and danger. If something is caught, the chat stops and a person from Kaleopolis reads it before it goes on. Nio reads the chats to learn what happens after an introduction — who answered, whether you agreed to meet — and so to search better. Nio joins a chat when you call it by name. If a chat goes quiet, Nio may look in once — only if one of you asks.
- Your email is for one thing: sign-in links and "Nio has a message for you". No newsletters, no ads.
Who else sees it
- The other person in an introduction. When Nio finds someone and a person from Kaleopolis approves the introduction, a new chat opens in Kaleopolis for the two of you. In it Nio writes why you might be useful to each other — without names. Each of you says yes or no, and the other sees the answer. Your first name shows only when you both say yes. A number, an address or anything else — only if you decide to give it.
- Nio is an AI. Nio's replies are written by a model from Anthropic. To write them, the conversation passes through their service. They don't train their models on it.
- The server is in Germany (Hetzner); emails go out through Resend in the EU. None of them use your data for anything else.
- We never sell your data. Ever.
How long we keep it
For as long as you're in Kaleopolis. You can leave any chat whenever you like (⋯ → "Leave"). When you decide to leave Kaleopolis, "Delete everything about me" (under "Write to us") deletes your conversations, your messages in every chat, everything noted from them, your email and every introduction Nio is working on for you — at once. If someone has already heard about you from Nio, they're told only that this one didn't come together. Nightly safety copies expire on their own within 14 days.
Your rights
You can ask to see what we keep about you, to correct it or to delete it — from "Write to us". If you think we're not keeping to the rules, you can complain to the Commission for Personal Data Protection (in Bulgaria) or the ICO (in the UK).
A few things to know
- Kaleopolis is for people over 18.
- Kaleopolis is an early version and it's free. It will change; when these terms change, we'll say so here and on the page.
- Nio isn't a therapist or an emergency line. If you're in danger, call 112.
- Kaleopolis doesn't vet the people it introduces you to. It checks every message in a chat and stops anything alarming until a person has read it. Whether and where you meet is up to the two of you.
